Hurricane Harvey ****UPDATE****

Imagine was suppose to have a departure date of  August 26th, 2017 around 11 AM.  Hurricane Harvey had other plans for us.  This storm had been tracked for a long time, and I surely thought once it hit Yucatan Peninsula it would die.  Harvey is a Zombie, came back to life with the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and headed for Texas.  One thought was to leave now, but the fear of being sucked back in was to great.  We prepared for the storm, uncertain of the exact landfall and continued watching weather and models of the storm.

Landfall was between Corpus Christi, Rockport , and Port Aransas, the pictures have been devastating of the damage. Homes, marinas, boats, and families destroyed by the power of the storm. For Imagine, we are on the dirty side of the storm about 150 miles away.  Wind max for us was 40 kts, most of the time it was between 20-30 kts., caused no problems for us.  Galveston Bay was stirred up and had very large swells.  Rain was off and on all day Thursday and Friday, none was extreme.

Friday night was a wake up call for everyone.  We got 24 inches of rain in just a few hours.  The water level increased significantly in the area of all the marinas.   So far no one I know have lost a vessel from this storm.  However, I have multiple friends that have lost cars and homes.  Some are now becoming live aboards because their dirt dwelling is flooded. It hurts our hearts for the pain our friends are having.  However, they are strong and will overcome. The surrounding communities and Houston are struggling with rescues and continued flooding.

For Imagine, we have weeks of food, over 125 gallons of fresh water, diesel for 2 weeks to run our generator.  We never needed it during the event. The water stayed on and good, electricity, internet all never failed once.  We had some difficulties getting off the dock but were able to manage. With other marina residents we walked and checked docks, and boats and everything is doing well.  For us this will delay our trip until the ZOMBIE Harvey gets far enough inland for us to leave.  We also have to let the Gulf calm down and find a weather window to leave.  We will have to go offshore, the ICW will be messed up for a long time with all the water leaving due to the rain Harvey left behind.  So, pray for Texas it had a hard hit, but they will survive.  We still have about 3 more days of rain!

For me personally being retired from public service for almost 30 years and 24 years in EMS I have always been one of those in the mix of this type of event.  It is strange to set back and watch without being involved.  We will find other ways to make a impact, but the new generation is filling the shoes and they are doing a great job.  The other observation is that with all the unrest we have in this country right now, it gives me hope to see people helping.  I have seen things the news stations will not report because it does not fit the narrative they want to push currently.  However, it does reassure me to that humanity has a chance to survive.

Below are some picture of what we are experiencing.
