Last week in Tarpon Springs.

Tarpon Springs was such a fun place to have stayed during our adventure.  Our extended stay was caused by a Low Pressure system that was coming from East to West across Florida. Causing winds or suppose to cause winds up to 40 mph.  We were in such a protected place, and with the TS forming in Mexico that turned into Hurricane Nate we decided to stay put for a while.

The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was amazing with all the stained glass, paintings on the ceiling and the Icons around the church.  There was a staff member there that answered questions for us about the church and services.  I found it interesting they still use the same service since the 4th century.  They also sing the entire service.  We also leanred that St. Nicholas also being Santa Claus is also known asNikolaos the Wonderworker, and the Patron Saint of Sailors.

It was time to venture out further and see more local attractions so we jumped aboard the Clearwater  Jolly Trolley which runs from Tarpon Springs all the way to St. Petersburg.  The charege $2.50 for one way or $5.00 for the entire day.  We went all the way to Clearwater to check the beach out.  Very wide white sand beach that is packed, not real soft.  Also very CROWDED!  The water is shallow and was a bit cloudy, this could have been some from the wind we were having, but was not just overly impressed.  We were told you have to try out a Frenchy's.  So which one there are like 5 of them.  We went to the South Beach cafe for a drink and decided on walking up to the Frenchy's Original Cafe for a early dinner. Carol had a gumbo and buffalo Shrimp, and I had the super grouper.  The food was pretty good, and the service was good too.  A couple of days later we decided to head back to Clearwater to visit the Aquarium that is a rehab rescue type facility.  Have you seen the movie Dolphin Tales? This is were it was filmed and they have Winter the dolphin without a tail.  The Clearwater Aquarium is a great educations visit. You can even have a webcam you can check them out also.

Our last nights at Tarpon springs they had a event called First Friday that is in the Historic District. The close down the a couple of streets, have bands, street vendors etc. very fun event.  Then in the Sponge Dock area we had Night in the Islands festival. They have local restaurants set up several table and you order from those restaurants.  They have a live Greek band with a dance troop that teaches people how to do the Greek dances.  I have to say we could have not picked a better location to be at for a week.
