Gave up mowing grass for spraying off bird poop!

When we were still dirt dwellers, we mowed grass, weeded flower beds, raked leaves etc.  Not that I minded that to much, I enjoyed it when our yard was all trimmed, green, and had flowering plants.  It was relaxing to sit back, and enjoy the view looking at the lake. Something was missing in our life.  Our need to move, travel, seek adventure.

Living on the boat, yet still tied to the dock we do have the freedom to move.  Being involved with  TMCA here in Texas keeps us moving and active.  Our promise to keep the boat ready to sail is still being accomplished.  It only takes a few minutes and we can take off.  Hopefully we get to make the big jump to full time cruising next winter if things go well.  After the elections it might be time to get the heck out of town. Check out TMCA!  http://www.texasmariners.com/

So yesterday since the days are starting to get a bit longer and we have a warm day in the low 70's it is time to do some chores. I am going to wash the boat for the upcoming trip to Galveston for Mardi Gras this weekend.  It is a 4 hour sail to Galveston from Kemah and pull into Pelican Rest Marina for the night.  Then hitch a ride over to Fish tales with TMCA for the party and parades.  Got the boat all cleaned up and still have some daylight.  We live in a marina that is right on Galveston Bay, so we get birds, sea gulls, snake heads, pelicans, egrets, osprey, and some I really have no clue what they are.  The side effect is POOP! Lots of it, on the dock, and some of the boats.  We have been lucky that no birds seem to like landing and staying on our boat.  It could be because of our cat, when not sleeping sits outside like one of those plastic owls promoting fear into the birds.  Then while the birds fish, walking and standing on our dock leave behind globs of concrete like substance known as poop.  So walking down the dock you move side to side swaying as you dodge the poop.  Someone driving by probably thinks we are a bunch of drunks.

Some of my wife's traits some which are OCD being the main one.  Her tidiness has rubbed off on me some.  Also a little bit and I mean very little of me has rubbed off on her. She drives up yesterday and takes this picture.

I have cleaned the entire dock of bird poop, and now scrubbing dock boxes that are well... not clean!  Most, but not all are from boats that are here, but never ever visited by the owners.  At least I have never seen them.  I get all finished, and have me a cold sun downer.  I get up the next morning and the birds have made the nightly deposit yet again.  Like grass, it will return.
